The Bothy, Listed Building
This project was exciting and complex. The Client, a charity providing training and services relating in the mental health sector, which neither owned nor had funding for the building when we first came on board.
A listed, derelict building in very poor condition, on the Heritage England “Buildings at Risk” Register, which owing to the terms of a bequest could only be used for charitable purposes, for the benefit of the community. Our Client fell in love with the building and so we set about working with the charity to gain the necessary funding to transform the building into a new centre.

Commercial Project
Once a long term lease was secured, surveys an investigations were undertaken including a Conservation Statement to ensure that any works to the building were sensitively undertaken. Funding was secured through the Heritage Lottery Fund’s Heritage Enterprise Grant scheme with match funding from a private charitable trust.
The fabric of the building was restored, requiring some specialist works to preserve the external walls made from an early form of concrete. Internally light was introduced through a central “spine” of roof lights and a modern interior created to house training rooms, offices and therapy spaces. The overall result a re-purposing of this once neglected building for future generations to enjoy.
